Fnding Faith between the Pages
I love books. It’s a fact. There’s just something about getting lost in a story or a message that speaks straight to your soul. While I do own a Kindle (and yes, it’s super convenient), there’s nothing quite like holding a real book in my hands. The feel of the pages, the beauty of the cover, and even seeing it resting on my nightstand—it’s like a quiet reminder waiting for me to pick it up again.
Call me old-fashioned, but I also love a good bookstore. Wandering through the aisles, browsing titles, and finding that one book that just seems to “find me” instead—it’s a small joy that never gets old. And even better, we just got a new bookstore in town. Miss Willa’s Bookshop. This is a local author who purchased a builiding in historic Charles Town and made it a home for her books along with many, many others. Such a welcoming spot and so many activities she organizes for our small town.

Lately, I’ve been drawn more and more to Christian-based books. They bring encouragement, perspective, and peace when life feels heavy, and boy oh boy has life been heavy these past few years. Whether it’s a devotional that helps me start my day in prayer, a faith-based novel that makes me think deeper about grace, or a spiritual growth book that challenges me to trust God more—each one plays a part in my walk with Him.
Books have a way of meeting us right where we are. Sometimes I’ll read a passage that feels like it was written just for me at that very moment. That’s the beauty of how God can use words—He speaks through them.
If you’re looking to grow closer to God, or simply want some uplifting reads, I encourage you to explore Christian authors. You might find one that changes your perspective, strengthens your faith, or just reminds you that you’re not alone in what you’re going through.
Here’s my top two (at the moment 😀)
Lysa Terkeurst – She writes straight from the heart. Raw. Relatable and FULL of grace. She’s not afraid to talk about pain, disappointment and learning to trust God again when life falls apart.
Max Lucado – He is very knowledgeable about the Bible. He definitely has a gift for taking deep biblical truths and wrapping them in warmth and simplicity. His words provide comfort, calm the soul and remind you of God’s steady presence, no matter what season you are in.
To me, reading is more than just a pastime—it’s a way to be still, to listen, and to let God speak through the pages.
What I’m reading now!

how to study the bible
This book is more of a teaching, helping Christian women (though many of the principles work for any believer) go deeper in studying Scripture, not just reading it for inspiration or an emotional boost. It aims to equip you with tools and habits so that every time you open your Bible, you can engage it thoughtfully, carefully, and transformatively. I am just starting this one so check back!

God carried her through
This book isn’t what I would consider a ‘quick’ read or one you want to read all at once. It is broken down into six essentials of faith: Love presence, grace, hope, gratitude, purpose.
This is more of a collection of reflections rather that a formal theological read (like A Jesus Shaped Life). Savannah shares from her own life — joys, doubts, griefs, and everyday moments — exploring how God’s love shows up.
One thing for sure, Savannah is very open about her past pain. You can feel the vulnerability in her words. There have been many things throughout her life and in my opinion, this is a way to move on. Think. Write. Move. And she really wants to share what she has learned along the way. Faith and God’s love have carried her through.

This isn’t for the faint of heart
This book is really challenging me now, A Jesus-Shaped Life. Let me just say—it’s not for the faint at heart. This book digs deep into what it truly means to live like Jesus, to love like Jesus, and to reflect His character in a world that often pulls us in the opposite direction. It’s not an easy read in the sense of self-reflection, but it’s powerful. It makes you pause and ask, “Am I really living a life shaped by Him?”
And theology…whew. That word just overwhelms me but I am committed to working through the book along with the workbook. I do think the workbook adds tons of value and explanation. Stay tuned because I will be updating soon on my progress with this ‘project’ 🙏
