Finding the perfect verse.

The past two years have been very challenging for me (and my family). It seems like multiple times throughout the day I am asking God for guidance. A sign. To speak to me. Just so I can try to understand or make the right choice. And I have to admit, most times it comes in a verse. I grab my bible and just open to a random page. And there it is! Exactly what he is saying to me or how he wants me to continue to have Faith even when nothing, and I mean NOTHING makes sense.

Here’s some examples of what I find when I seek his word. Simply the best….

Other times, when I don’t have a Bible handy, I search Google. “Show me a Bible verse about anxiety” and poof! I get a list.

  • Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
  • Psalm 55:22: Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
  • Hebrews 13:6: So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
  • Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Scripture verses throughout the home, on your desk or pop-ups on your phone are ways to continue to learn the word of God. My counselor/therapist is so knowledgeable and just rattles off scripture for any and every situation. My hope is to one day be like that. To be able to recite many, many scripture verses that apply to my daily life and help me get through. And what would be even better is to be able to help others in time of need. Hobby Lobby is one of my favorite places to shop and pick up things with scripture. I have this one hanging in our kitchen and reading this simple, short reminder starts my day off with a grateful heart.

Each evening, I sit down and take a few minutes to complete a Bible Word Search. It relaxes me while giving me the opportunity to read a ‘short story’ that ties back to scripture for the day. There is usually a title, then a Bible verse, then a few paragraphs that relate along with the words to search. This is a great way to become familiar with scripture. Note….word search runs deep in my family. My grandma, my Mom and my sister have all spent hours finding words in a variety of books. When my grandma moved to the large print, we did laugh. Oh how I understand now.

I also have The Illustrated Words of Jesus for Women, Daily Devotional. This contains 365 days of calming coloring and meaningful mediation on the Words of Jesus. This is actually a dated book with regard to the month and day but can be used over and over. Very similar to the word search, this book provides a heading/topic, a bible verse along with a section to color and lines to make notes about how you related to the day.

Another way to continue learning scripture is to write down the scriptures referenced during the Sunday sermon. I purchased a Bible Study Journal that has a Bible Tracker, showing each book and chapters that can be used to check off as I read. There is a section for Sermon Notes. I uses this each week – the topic, the pastor (our church as 21 pastors!), the location (virtual or in person), Key Scriptures, Main Thoughts and a section at the bottom, “How Can I Apply This To My Life?” that allows me to write what I plan to do that week.

These are just a few ways to incorporate scripture/passage/verse reading into your daily habits. When we pursue knowledge of God through Scripture, prayer, and reflection, we gain wisdom that guides our decisions and strengthens our faith. The Bible also emphasizes that studying God’s Word is essential for spiritual growth. In 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Paul writes, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” This passage teaches that Scripture is a tool given by God to teach, correct, and prepare believers to live faithfully. By learning and studying the Bible, people develop a clearer understanding of God’s character, His promises, and the way He calls His followers to live. I have included links to all the things so go check them out here!

So my friend…..there’s something to be said when a simple Bible verse shows us that everything is going to be ok. God’s will, not ours. God’s timing, not ours. And we are never alone. Matthew 28:20 “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”. 🙏❤️

Thanks for stopping by. Blessings to you! –Bev
