Social media often gets a bad reputation. It can be noisy, divisive, and full of distractions. But sometimes, it also becomes a tool God uses to bring people together and remind us of His presence.
Recently, I was reminded that sometimes, social media turns to the Bible in the most unexpected ways.
My husband hadn’t seen a childhood friend in over forty years. Through a simple Facebook reconnection, they began to chat, reminiscing about old times. Before long, we decided to meet in a small town near us as they were traveling through — and that’s where God showed up in the most beautiful way.
A Facebook Reconnection After 40 Years
When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by his friend from elementary school and his family. I didn’t know these people at all, yet there was something comforting about their spirit. It was as if we were meant to be there, in that very moment.

As we talked, his mother began to share her faith — quoting Scripture naturally, joyfully, and with such conviction that it tugged at my heart. I truly felt she was speaking to me, knowing I was the one out of the whole group, that understood her the most at that moment.
A Divine Encounter in an Ordinary Place
As we were talking, she asked if she could give me something…of course I said ‘sure!’ She handed me a small book – My Little Bible. I’m pretty sure it was her last one, even though she said she orders multiple and likes to give them to special people. On the back, in her own handwriting, she had written, “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.”
That little Bible sits on my nightstand today. It reminds me that God works through ordinary people in ordinary places — and even through social media. I have read through the book multiple times, thinking about her each time and how special she is. The scriptures she can recite are unbelievable. Note…My Little Bible reminded me of the miniature Jesus Marty shared and I referenced in this post.
In that moment, I realized that social media turns to the Bible not through algorithms or posts, but through the hearts it connects.
When Social Media Becomes a Ministry Tool
Since that day, I’ve been able to text her a few times and I’ve shared my blog page. She is really good with her cell phone and she told me she has a prayer list she prays over every day. I have shared my baptism story and family prayer updates. And every time we text, it feels like another piece of God’s plan unfolding.
Social media, for all its flaws, can be a vessel of grace. It can connect believers, spread encouragement, and remind us that we’re part of something bigger — a faith community that reaches far beyond screens and friend lists.
Faith and social media don’t have to be opposites. When guided by God, even a Facebook message can become a ministry moment.

Lessons Learned: Seeing God in Every Connection
This experience changed the way I view online life. God can use anything — even a Facebook reconnection — to draw us closer to Him.
In a world that often questions its worth, I’ve learned that social media turns to the Bible every time we let God guide our connections. I have to admit that most of my feed is related these days. 😀
May we all be open to the divine appointments God places in our paths — whether they come through a friend request or a simple message.
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” – John 1:14
Closing Reflection
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for using unexpected moments to draw us closer to You. Help us to see Your purpose in every connection and to use our online presence as a light that points others toward You. Amen.
