Psalm 143:8 - Direction of my life

Make Me Know the Way I Should Go

“Let me know the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” — Psalm 143:8

For those of you who have been around here for a while, you know about my car.

Twelve years old. More than 250,000 miles. And honestly? Still in mint condition and running great.

That car has been so good to us. Other than oil changes, tires, and regular maintenance, it has cost us very little over all those years. And maybe that’s part of the reason I just couldn’t let it go.

But we put on a LOT of miles these days—especially going back and forth to “church.” 😉

So, we decided it might be time to buy something new.

Sticking With What We Know

We’ve had such good luck with Honda that we decided not to mess with a good thing.

Another Honda it would be. Unfortunately, they don’t make the Crosstour anymore. Sigh. So we settled on an Accord.

Ronnie and I agreed that I would go shopping for the basic model. Nothing fancy. Just something dependable that would get us where we needed to go.

Simple enough, right? And naturally, I immediately migrated toward white. Because apparently twenty plus years of owning a white car wasn’t enough. 😂

But then something happened. Even after receiving what I thought was a phenomenal offer for my Crosstour, I couldn’t part with it.

I just couldn’t do it. So…we kept it. And since keeping it meant we already had a white Honda sitting in the driveway, I decided maybe it was time to change things up a little. Meteorite Gray.

And friends, she is pretty.

We actually haven’t driven the new car a whole lot yet because we rely and ‘prefer’ front and rear cameras and honestly, it hasn’t been a priority. But….this past weekend while we were home, we installed the cameras so she is ready to go!. Woohoo! 🎉

Brooklyn, however, does love it when I bring the new car to pick her up so Tuesday through Thursday, I drive it to her school. I love the time we get to spsend together and she loves our car. 🤣❤️

But What About the License Plate?

We’ve always had vanity plates. The Crosstour has ITSACROC, which was perfect because, well… Anyone driving it would be a CROCkett.

Get it? 😂

But I decided not to transfer that plate to the new car. That meant I had a completely blank slate. And I knew pretty quickly that I wanted the new plate to have something to do with Scripture. I found several possibilities and let Ronnie weigh in. He chose the one he liked best. And then…

We sat on it. I didn’t order anything. I didn’t rush. We just waited.

And Then This Happened

This evening, I was cleaning, sorting, and organizing for our upcoming yard sale. There were piles everywhere. Things to keep. Things to sell. Things that I’m still apparently emotionally negotiating with myself about. 😂 And somewhere in the middle of all of it, a sticker book fell out of one of my piles. I picked it up. And there it was. An entire page with the same words:

“Make me know the way I should go.” Psalm 143:8.

Sticker book - Psalm 143:8

Wait. What?! I just stood there looking at it. A Scripture about the way I should go… For my car. For a license plate. About direction. About trusting God. About exactly what I have been trying to do in my life.

Friends… That’s it!

Psalm 143:8

Make Me Know the Way

The full verse says:

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” — Psalm 143:8

Isn’t that beautiful?

And isn’t it funny how God can use something as ordinary as a sticker book falling out of a pile to make you stop and pay attention?

Because this isn’t really about a license plate. It’s about where I am in my walk with God. These days, I don’t want to make the big decisions without asking Him first. Actually, I don’t want to make the little ones without Him either.

Lord, should I do this? Is this where You want me? Is this the right time? Am I supposed to move forward—or am I supposed to wait? Show me the way I should go.

I’ve spent enough of my life thinking I needed to know the answers. Fix it. Plan it. Figure it out. Make it happen. But God has been teaching me something different. Sometimes my job isn’t to know the way. My job is to trust the One who does. And boy, am I still learning that one.

Even the Waiting Fits

So there you have it. The request for the new vanity plate has officially been submitted. And now? We wait. How appropriate is THAT? 😂 Because waiting for God’s direction is pretty much what I’m all about these days. I’m learning not to run ahead. Not to force an answer. Not to assume my way is His way. To pray first. To listen. To watch. And then to move when He shows me the way.

I certainly don’t get it right every time. But I’m learning.

Maybe someday I’ll be driving down the road in my car with Psalm 143:8 on the back and someone behind me will notice it.

Maybe they’ll look the verse up. Maybe they’re facing a decision of their own. Maybe they desperately need direction. And maybe those few little letters and numbers will remind them of something I’m learning too:

We don’t have to know every turn ahead of us when we know Who is leading the way.

Hallelujah. God is good.

A Little Reflection for You

Are you trying to figure something out right now?

Maybe you’re standing at a crossroads. Maybe you’re waiting on an answer. Or maybe you’ve already decided what you think you should do and you’re asking God to bless the direction you’ve chosen.

What if we flipped that around? Instead of saying, “God, please bless where I’m going,” what if our prayer became: “God, show me where You want me to go.” There is such a difference.

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the ways You speak to us—even through the ordinary moments we could so easily overlook.

Lord, make me know the way I should go.

When I want to rush ahead, teach me to wait. When I think I have everything figured out, remind me to ask You first. When I can’t see what is around the next corner, help me trust that You already can.

Guide my decisions, my relationships, my days, and every road ahead of me. I don’t need to know the entire route, Lord. I just need to keep following You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

“Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” — Psalm 143:8

And soon, Lord willing, a little reminder of that will be riding right along with me. ❤️

Thanks for stopping by. Blessings to you! –Bev
